Today, Pinehurst has eight eighteen-hole championship golf courses and three world-class hotels. The three are, The Carolina, The Holly and The Manor. There is a 31,000 sq. ft. spa with twenty-eight treatment rooms, a lap pool, steam sauna, whirlpool and many other treatments. There are also tennis courts, lawn bowling and croquet.

While at Pinhurst, a thought popped into my head. Frequently, friends ponder what to buy their wives for special days. Well, how about a gift certificate to the spa? Or, what about including grandma, your daughter or your beautiful granddaughter? You could have a wonderful time if you took her to Pinehurst for a day at the spa.

Championships, US Senior Opens and a Walker Cup. Be sure to walk through the halls of the clubhouse if your interested in golf. It’s a walk though history. The pro shop is huge and more like a department store then a pro shop.

Over the years some rather famous people have visited Pinehurst. In 1916 Annie Oakley, star of the “Buffalo Bill Wild West Show” gave shooting exhibitions and taught some 15,000 men and woman to shoot. John Philip Sousa enjoyed trap shooting, while Will Rogers played in polo matches. Some of Hollywood’s biggest names loved to come to Pinehurst—Bing Crosby, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, to name a few. Amelia Earhart landed her plane at the Pinehurst airstrip in 1931.
